Wine and the Bar
Wine is included in the price of your stay, we'd hate for you to come to France and not enjoy the wine (sacre bleu). We make sure we have a selection of reds and whites in stock at the chalets so you can sample a few during your time with us. Our current selection is below and scoll down for information about beers and spirits.
Please note these wines are only available at Chalet Beatrice, Chalet de l'Ange and Chalet Musardiere. Wine at Chalet Abby is a French table wine, red and white.
Rare Vineyards Malbec 2009
The Argentines have made the Malbec grape a world star, producing soft, supple, velvety wines - a world away from the old-fashioned reds of France's Cahors where the grape traditionally hails from. This Malbec wine is very much in the New World style - lashings of juicy berry fruit with a lovely enveloping smoothness.
Monastier Shiraz 2009
A lightly oaked Syrah/Shiraz from the Languedoc, made in a modern, almost 'New World' style. It has a lovely vanilla-like point from the oak, marrying beautifully with the soft dark fruit in the wine. A real crowd-pleaser.
A superb middle-weight Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot blend from the Languedoc. It's got real charm - the typical plumminess of Merlot combined with the Cabernet backbone to give it bite. You could easily imagine this wine came from Chile.
Domaine Perillieres AOP Cotes du Rhone Villages 2008
Made from 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache in the Gard region between Avignon and Nimes, this is surely a wine that encapsulates why the Rhone Valley is one of the best sources in the world of accessible, interesting, charming red wines. It's got body and substance, but it doesn't knock you off your perch. It's got sunshine and warmth, but it doesn't burn your mouth with an alcohol overload. It's got flavours of delicious dark candied fruits and sweet cinnamon spice, but it's no confected fruit juice. Very difficult indeed to resist finishing the bottle... Pair up with some lovely rosemary-scented lamb chops.
